Biography
Bethany A. Kurz, Director of Subsurface Characterization and Data Analytics at the EERC, leads programs, projects, and a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers in topics related to carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS); application of machine learning, data analytics and AI to CCUS and oil and gas development; enhanced oil recovery in conventional and unconventional reservoirs; critical mineral resource assessment in geologic materials; and produced water and drilling waste management. During a +27-year career at the EERC, Ms. Kurz has overseen several multimillion-dollar research efforts funded by commercial clients and/or state and federal entities.
Ms. Kurz also leads the EERC’s applied research laboratories. In that role, she is responsible for working closely with the laboratory team to ensure the quality of the data and results generated by the laboratories, to integrate laboratory results into the applied research efforts conducted at the EERC, and to expand the laboratory capabilities to better address the needs of our partners and emerging challenges related to energy development and environmental stewardship.
Ms. Kurz received an M.S. degree in Hydrogeology from UND in 1998 and a B.S. degree in Geology from Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, Massachusetts, in 1995.
